Shu-Te University has long been committed to building a sustainable campus and advancing University Social Responsibility (USR). This year, it was recognized with the “2025 CommonWealth University Citizenship Award – 10th Place among Private Technical and Vocational Universities,” highlighting the university’s comprehensive achievements across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) dimensions. The university stated that it will take this award as a new starting point, continuing to integrate teaching innovation with industry collaboration to cultivate professional talent equipped with sustainability mindsets and practical skills.
In response to national net-zero policies and global sustainability trends, the university recently partnered with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to introduce the “Fundamentals of Net-Zero Sustainability” digital course, becoming a leading private technical and vocational institution in promoting net-zero education. Through interdisciplinary and systematic course design, the program helps faculty and students deepen their sustainability knowledge and strengthen their ability to respond to environmental change and industrial transformation.
Vice President for Research and Development Song Hong-Chi noted that the course covers key topics such as net-zero carbon emissions, energy transition, the circular economy, corporate ESG governance, and sustainable innovation strategies. It also incorporates the perspectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enabling faculty and students to understand the importance of sustainability issues from a global viewpoint. Presented in a clear and accessible manner, the course introduces the latest industry developments and practical case studies, allowing learners to grasp trends in net-zero technologies, carbon inventory and carbon management concepts, and to apply sustainability thinking to real-world problems.
The university also plans to gradually integrate related courses into general education, professional curricula, and faculty training programs. Supported by digital learning platforms and cross-disciplinary collaboration mechanisms, Shu-Te University aims to foster a campus-wide culture of shared participation in sustainability learning. The university hopes that sustainability will not remain solely as classroom knowledge, but will become deeply embedded in daily campus life and educational decision-making, serving as a shared core value among faculty and students.
President Wang Chao-Hsiung stated that the university will continue to combine interdisciplinary expertise across colleges with external industry resources to expand sustainability education and practical application venues. These efforts will include areas such as carbon management technologies, green design, and sustainable business models, enabling students to accumulate hands-on sustainability experience during their studies and to become key drivers of society’s transition toward net-zero emissions and sustainable development in their future careers.
